The horizon viewed from
Country Cottage Retreats is dotted with the historic remains of Cornish
engine houses now reclaimed by nature but fascinating reminders of
Cornwall's mining past. While exploring look out for signs of wildlife
- rabbits, foxes, badgers and buzzards which can often be seen amongst
Cornwall's varied flora and fauna.
Cornwall is famed for its golden beaches, the nearest
being Swanpool about 15 minutes drive and the well known Praa Sands
only about 25 minutes drive. 4 miles away stands the ancient market
town of Helston famous for it's annual Floral Dance. We are only
6 miles from the historic port and harbour of Falmouth and 20 minutes
from the City of Truro both are excellent shopping centres.
Numerous fascinating pubs and excellent restaurants
provide convivial evenings out. We have no less than five competitive
golf courses within driving distance and there are pleasant walks
and excellent coarse fishing at Argal and College reservoirs famous
for bird watching around 4 miles away. Horse riding is also easily
available in the area.
There are a wealth of attractions to suit all tastes
which include Flambards Theme Park, The Eden Project, Lands End,
Poldark Mine, The Seal Sanctuary, Tate Gallery at St Ives and the
Falmouth Maritime Museum to name but a few.
Cornwall and the South West is now so handy for your
holiday.
From the Midlands and the North take the M5 and from
London M4, meeting up at Bristol. Head from here down the M5 to Exeter
and then join the A30 towards Truro. Turn off the A30 towards Truro
follow the signs through Truro towards Falmouth on the A39. Rather
than travelling into Falmouth take the A394 towards Helston, passing
through the village of Longdown, Rame and Edgecombe you will see
a sign for Retanna Holiday Park on your right, continue past on the
main road for approx 500 yds. You will see 4 black and white bollards
on your right hand side and a small unmarked tarmac lane. Turn in
here and proceed up the lane for approx 1/4 mile. Carry on until
you see our sign (4th property on the right).
